NVTA Fools Want to Allow Buses on the Shoulders

The nitwits at the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority are now pushing a plan to allow buses to drive on the shoulders of highways and other major roads, which would allow them to bypass congestion and go to the head of the line at traffic signals.
Chris Zimmerman, chairman of the NVTA, wants a 100-mile system of shoulder lanes in Virginia and Maryland. “Any road that is tied up and has a shoulder on it is a candidate,” he said.
Unbelievable. Why the hell should the damn buses and their riff-raff ridership be allowed to drive on the shoulder? Why should they be able to go to the head of the line at traffic signals? What makes them so freaking special? Why can’t they wait in line like the rest of us?
Plus, the buses themselves cause traffic congestion on non-highway roads like Route 7 between Alexandria and Tyson’s Corner. Every time a bus stops to pick up some stupid rider on the side of the road, it has to stop in the right hand lane because there is no shoulder, and as a result all the cars and trucks behind the bus have to switch to the left hand lane to get around it, which causes a massive traffic jam.
The shoulder on the highway should be made into a regular lane, so that all commuters can benefit. For that matter, so should the damn car pool lanes. And get rid of the tolls while you’re at it.
We at Commuter Outrage have had it up to here with the hacks at the NVTA and their idiot policies. They refuse to widen the highways, and instead build car pool lanes all over the damn place. Then they try to levy illegal taxes on commuters, but fail when the Virginia Supreme Court strips them of their powers. Next they try to harass Richmond into giving them more of our tax money which they don’t need. And now they want to let buses ride on the shoulders and go to the head of the line at traffic signals.
And this business that “each full bus takes 30 to 40 cars off the road”? Give me a break. The people who ride the bus don’t have cars to begin with. That’s why they’re riding the bus. No one in their right mind would choose to ride the bus. They have to out of necessity.
Zimmerman again: “We have to reward people who use public transportation and let them know that even if there is traffic, you are going to make it to work or home on time.”
Why? Why the hell should we reward people who use public transportation? Why is riding the bus or taking the Metro morally superior to driving a car? What business is it of the government to play favorites?
We’re going to be closely following this Zimmerman and his NVTA clowns over the coming months. We’re going to expose all of their shenanigans and boondoggles. They’re not going to get away with this crap any longer.
