Bloomberg Crony Gets Free E-ZPass, Special Parking Privileges

An ex-Bloomberg deputy named Marc Shaw - who supported the odious $8 congestion pricing proposal that thankfully failed – enjoys a government-issued parking permit and free E-ZPass account, according to the NY Daily News.

Shaw hasn’t worked for the city since 2006. He is now an executive with the Extell Real Estate Co., which develops residential, office, hotel, and retail properties. But he still enjoys the perks of the mayor’s office.

The parking permit allows him to leave his car in restricted areas like commercial loading and unloading zones, while the E-ZPass account grants him free use of MTA’s seven bridges and tunnels.

Shaw says he can’t recall using the parking permit since leaving his government job. (Notice how he doesn’t flatly deny the accusation, but rather uses doubletalk and politico-speak to hedge against potential future evidence that shows him parking at loading zones all over the city.)

The story doesn’t give any details about Shaw’s use of the free E-ZPass account, so we’ll assume the worst.

According to the NY Daily News,

The MTA late last year trimmed the number of authority-issued annual parking permits from 345 to 295, a 15% reduction …

About 10 former MTA board members have MTA parking placards, which also are granted to current board members …

Shaw is far from alone in receiving MTA freebies. Many MTA workers of all ranks get some type of free travel pass even after retirement.

What makes these government workers so special? Why do they get free parking passes and E-ZPass accounts? Why do they get to park wherever they damn please and breeze in and out of Manhattan free of charge?

These people should have to live with the stupid parking regulations and tolls they themselves created.

That is really infuriating! He’s no longer a city employee, and should not be getting free parking passes and free use of E-Z Passes. And what gets me are the board members. That position isn’t a paid position! Why the hell do they get travel perks? is it an incentive to get them to become members?!
