Drivers might soon have to pay a $7 toll to cross San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. The current toll is $5 for those who pay with cash and $4 for those who use FasTrak. That’s a 40-75% increase.

Officials with the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District have stated that their intention is to reduce traffic during peak hours - 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM on weekdays, and 3 to 7 PM on weekends and holidays.

But of course, those who drive during these peak hours are on their way to work and won’t be able to move their schedules around to skirt the new tolls. So the only thing this 40-75% toll increase will accomplish is increasing government revenue.

Why can’t officials just come right out and tell the truth. Toll increases are meant to do one thing only - grab more of your tax money.
