Congressmen Lease Luxury Cars with Taxpayer Dollars

U.S. Congressmen get to lease luxury cars paid for by tax dollars, New York’s CBS 2 reports. It’s actually quite a nice little perk.
Charlie Rangel (D-NY) rolls in a Cadillac DeVille at $774 per month ($9,288 per year).
Ed Towns (D-NY) enjoys a Lincoln MKX at $715 per month ($8,580 per year).
Gregory Meeks (D-NY) fancies a Lexus LS460 at $998 per month ($11,976 per year).
And so on.
When asked by CBS 2 why he couldn’t lease a car for, say, $300 a month, Rangel responded,
I could probably find something for … [pause] … one of those red cars and then I think my constituents would say, “With all the money that he gets, this is the respect he shows us?”
Look at that - He has a little excuse!
In an earlier statement, he also mentioned that,
When I’m in New York, my car is my office. I use it to conduct Congressional business. It really pleases me that [my constituents] appreciate driving in a comfortable car, especially the senior citizens. …
The car isn’t just a vehicle for getting around; it’s an important part of doing my job and my constituents appreciate it.
This is the fat bastard who gave us this brilliantly incoherent position on congestion pricing.
