Police Sting Grabs Sexual Deviants in NY Subway Bathrooms

Not only is the New York subway filled with petty criminals, bed bugs, homeless people, gangbangers, preachers, thieves, buskers, cockroaches, angry beggars, and drug addicts … it also serves as a meet-and-greet hookup spot for perverts, exhibitionists, and sexual deviants.
On May 27, NYPD Transit Bureau Capt. Jeffrey Klimas exposed himself (allegedly) to a young man on the platform of the Union Turnpike subway station in Queens. He was arrested and now awaits trial.
On June 3, a police sting resulted in the arrests of 6 men who were engaging (allegedly) in public lewdness (most likely: bumping and grinding) in the 71st-Continental Avenue and Union Turnpike subway station bathrooms.
Doesn’t make you want to take the NY subway into Queens, now does it?
According to the New York Post, the arresting officers hid in bathroom closets, waiting for the perverts to enter. A police source (possibly shaking his head in exasperation) referred to these bathrooms as “notorious” and “historically active … for that kind of stuff.”
You’ve got to hand it to these NYPD officers. They have to deal with the absolute bottom of the barrel in their chosen careers. Think about what it must be like to wait for hours in some public bathroom closet … inhaling the sickening fumes … listening to the sound of explosive bowel movements … waiting for one miscreant to climb onto another.
This is New York City, the Big Apple, the capital of the world. This is America’s pride and joy.
Disgusting.

that is news to me. that is the station where i catch the train to go to work. that is just disgusting!
Of course you could’ve found this behavior anywhere, but you chose to highlight it in the Subway.
Correct. This is Commuter Outrage. We cover transportation issues. If this had happened in a highway rest stop or airline bathroom, we would have also covered it.
do you know if any of those six guys were senators or city politicians?? investigate!!!
How funny would that be!
ONYC’s subways are “filled” by regular work-a-day commuters of all races, classes and types. The subway moves millions of people to and from work each day, far more efficiently than any other mode of transport that exists in the US. The bed bugs and perverts and far and away the exception.
goldstein,
ever tried taking the subway on a weekend? ever thought it weird how the 2 is running on the 5 and vice-versa, how every express train is running local, and how annoying this is in stations that don’t have islands in between express and local (like penn station)?
ever tried rolling on the lex ave line in the middle of rush hour, or, for that matter, during a busy weekend, when every single train is packed to the brim and there is absolutely no breathing room?
ever wondered why the g train - the only line connecting bk and qns directly - doesnt stop at any of the big hubs in those buroughs?
ever taken a q express from 57 all the way to canal only to have it switch to local stops in manhattan instead of going over the bridge like it always does?
i could go on forever. but the fact that these inconsistencies exist is proof in my mind that the nyc subway is not efficient by any stretch of the imagination.
David,
You write: “The subway moves millions of people to and from work each day, far more efficiently than any other mode of transport that exists in the US.”
I’m assuming you’re referring to the NY subway. If so, do you have some evidence that the New York subway is “far more efficiently than any other mode of transport that exists in the US”?
Or are you referring to “the subway” as a nation-wide concept?
[…] not wait. I knew there was a public restroom at Union Turnpike. And I knew (from reading a post by one of the members of Commuter Outrage) this was the same restroom that have been locations of […]
