DC Metro Gives Marion Barry $3,200 (Not For Crack)

Former DC Mayor Marion Barry is in the news again, although not because of his addiction to crack.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority paid Barry more than $3,200 last August after he claimed a B2 route bus sideswiped the passenger side of his car, causing damage.
Problem is that no one can verify Barry’s claim. There were no witnesses. Nor was any damage found on the bus. And the bus driver denied having hit a vehicle. And Barry didn’t file a police report. And he waited a month to tell Metro about the crash.
And the repairs cost Barry nearly $1,000 less than the $3,200 he received from Joe Taxpayer, according to Fox News.
So guess what John Catoe, Metro’s inept, incompetent, bungling General Manager, decided to do? He decided to pay the drug abusing, office disgracing, public trust betraying, lying Barry $3,200 because “the reality is, he’s a member of the board of directors.”
“In my judgment, I did not feel that he would have lied about such a small claim,” Catoe said. “I believed he was truthful, and I made the decision to pay him.”
Actually, Catoe, you buffoon, the reality is that Marion Barry has served as an alternate member of the Metro board for 3 years, during which time he’s had the worst attendance record of the 12 members. He’s attended 9 out of 165 committee and board meetings.
All of this after he was caught smoking crack by the FBI, arrested, convicted, sentenced to 6 months in prison, forced to step down from his position as mayor of the nation’s capital, and then reelected by the stupid idiots who live in Washington DC.
But I guess it’s a setup. A goddamn setup. I’ll be goddamn. Bitch set me up.

what the hell?! that’s incredulous! no records of damage? and he gets $3200 off the cuff because he’s a board member? that reasoning bares no ground. what is up with the board members and these perks that cost tax payers money?!
I know. It’s really disgraceful. And you know this is just scratching the surface.
But this shows you how stupid Marion Barry is. I’ve never understood petty crime, where you put your reputation, career, and freedom on the line for just a few thousand dollars.
If you’re going to do this type of thing, why not go for the big bucks. Pull off a multi-million dollar heist. Set yourself up in style. Retire.
Don’t defraud the government for a measly $3,200 that gets you a few more puffs on the crack pipe.
To all of our readers, the Daily Commuter makes a good point about board members and their perks. See the below link:

What a boondoggle.
Metro: “Sir, was there a crack in the windshield?”
Barry: “No, that was in the glove compartment.”
…
My question is: why doesn’t congress just permanently bar him from office?
Steve -
That was pretty damn funny.
Congress doesn’t bar him from office because they are gutless buffoons. It is a complete sham that we’re fighting a “war on drugs” and incarcerating young black men at unprecedented rates with incredibly harsh sentances while the Mayor of the nation’s capital smokes crack with a hooker in a motel room and gets away virtually unscathed.
The only way this clown should be able to earn a living any more is by lecturing kids on the evils of drug abuse with his own pathetic story. Though, after saying that, I’m not so sure I’d want Marion Barry talking to my kids about anything. Maybe I’d be happier if he had to scrub toilets.
Don’t worry, Metro will cover this little loss soon by hiking fares again.
Lewis,
You think Marion Barry’s bad? Congress has a former judge who was impeached and removed from office by Congress in the late 80s for taking bribes in their midst. Check out the criminal representative, Alcee Hastings.
It’s a shame:

That’s pretty sweet. I wonder how mcuh pork he gobbles up every year?
I like how he’s on the committee for intelligence oversight and investigations. They should put him on the ethics committee next.
It’s great Lewis. I love it when Congress’ belief they are above all rules shines through as in this case.
Dark,
You’re too damn stupid for words.
It’s International French Toast week at IHOP.
G-d Bless,
See you at IHOP.
